Roma

Our arrival at Rome's Termini Station was everything you'd expect Italy to be - frantic bustle, people exclaiming loudly, swarms of good looking men and oodles of immactuately dressed women - we fit right in! (haha)

Jokes about our good-looking-ness aside, we are so in love with Rome, it's an incredible city and the old-ness of it is just mind blowing. We've spent our days so far walking till we could walk no more (it's hard work, seriously, you should feel sorry for us!) and so far we've seen the Colesseum, the Roman Forum and assorted ruins along with the beautiful Trevi Fountain and countless other beautiful buildings and piazza's.

Today we got up early and headed for the Vatican city. Wow! We were pretty blown away by St Peter's square, and then we got in the basilica itself which was just awe inspiring due to the massive scale of it. We weren't prepared for it being that big. The views from the Dome (which we climbed the 550 stairs to get to - lifts are for suckers!) was well worth the exertion and it was great looking down over the square. Of course, lifts are also more expensive and the 4 euro we saved walking was just the amount we needed for Italy's best invention - Gelati. This stuff is amazing and we could happily eat it all day, if it wasn't setting us back so much a cone!!!

After the church we made our way to the Vatican Museums - security would rival an airport and there were throngs of people. Being the heathens that we are we made a beeline for the Sistine Chapel and it was well worth the long walk to get there. We were both pretty blown away seeing it up close. After we'd had our fill of the Vatican we wandered along the Tiber River monument spotting as we went until we found our way to the famous Spanish Steps, which were, of course, crowded with people and the church at the top, of course, was covered in scaffolding. Scaffolding is a major theme of our trip, guess it's the problem of travelling in Spring, everywhere we go an important building (or five) is hidden away from view!

The weather here is great and it's good not to be freezing - although being idiots, we of course finally bought warmer jackets in Zagreb, so now we get to carry them. Smart! But we're not complaining about sunny days and warm temperatures, especially cause it must be getting colder at home, right?

Anyway, best be off but will aim to update you a bit more frequently as we make our way around Italy. Next stop is Sorrento, we head there Saturday morning.
