Budapest

We didn't have the best start in Budapest. Arriving overnight from Poland, we hurried out of the train station eager to find our room, but we just couldn't get our bearings from our map. This continued for quite some time before we worked out (and only after we asked someone) that we were at a completely different train station than the one we thought! This meant a 40 minute walk through the city dragging our heavy bags - not fun!

Luckily our accomodation was great and we were quickly feeling better about things in fact we fell in love with the city from our first step on the UNESCO protected Andrassy St. The day was a stunner too, and at 6pm was still sitting at 22 degrees - we like! We checked out the amazing city park and parked our aching muscles in one of Budapest's famous baths, which was heavenly for a few hours, until we noticed the floating skin and felt a bit grossed out!

The next day we crossed the Danube and took in the amazing castle district in Buda - was totally gorgeous and I definitely rate Budapest as a whole as a highlight. In our time there we also climbed the massive hill to the citadel high above the city, checked out on island in the middle of the Danube and even did a spot of shopping - well we bought a top each!

We also splashed out on an evening dinner cruise - was incredible to see the city by night, it was just breathtakingly beatiful! The boat itself was hiliarious - major 80s decor, but the food was surprisingly good, except for the fact the plates were (I kid you not) bread and butter sized! Very hard to heap goulash on, but we made a good effort! There was also a very entertaining two person band and we managed to have a bit of a dance to some Hungarian rock music - fun times!
